What am I all about as a Belgian director from Ghent?
Last years, my biggest project was my own short movie ‘‘Nimmer’‘. In 2011, I wrote the screenplay and saw a lot of hard work rewarded by the Flanders Audiovisual Fund. This film contains animation as well as live-action, all blending seamlessly into a compelling viewing experience. After years of hard work and coordinating the whole process as a director, I am very proud to have won several awards and to have been selected at several international film festivals in 2016 and 2017. Needless to say, I learned a lot from all this. That’s why nowadays I like to use state-of-the-art technology to create a mystifying atmosphere, in which anything is possible.
How did I get here?
After graduating in 2003 in computer sciences, I had a first job as a programmer for a banking company. After three years I decided to quit my job in order to be able to devote more time to my passion: creating movies. I increased my movie knowledge and skills by taking a stage directing course, a basic acting course, and by participating in screenplay workshops. I studied the basics of 3D-animation, applied for one-minute contests and created music clips and corporate movies. A few years later, I won the award for `Best Music Video´ at The Portfolio Awards in Antwerp. I also worked as a theater technician for the Belgian comedian Wouter Deprez, made sound designs and directed a stand-up comedy show in the Arenberg Theatre in Antwerp.
Later, I put my technical knowledge to use as a tech support engineer at Grid VFX. I worked several years in post-production (2007 – 2012), providing IT-support as well as monitoring the entire process of digital cinema (‘The Misfortunates’, ‘Beyond the Steppes’, ‘Adem’, …). During that period I was also an assistant editor to Flemish TV-series including ‘Code 37′, ‘Deadline 14/10′, ‘Gina & Chantal’, ‘De 13 Geboden’ en ‘De Bende van Jan De Lichte’. My IMDB page and the credit page on this website list all the projects I was involved in. By working in digital post production, I discovered the unlimited possibilities of animation and special effects in fiction.
I believe my value as a creative, technical director is my love to use state-of-the-art technology to create a mystifying atmosphere, in which anything is possible. My work tends to be rather dark because I would like to go further than the usual imaginative happy story. As a freelancer, I am now acting as a director and an editor and hope to find several assignments for the future.
